This time we had the pleasure of meeting Yannis Pantazis and his partner Argyro Kakisis. They live in Akrotiri, on the south side of the island and they work at a preserved Venetian Tower, located on the top of the Castle of Akrotiri.
La Ponta, as it is called, currently hosts the Greek Bagpipe Exhibition and Workshop which was established in 2012. There are guided tours every day, where the public can learn more about the history of the location, and concerts held many times during the week, where the audience can listen to music especially composed to showcase traditional music organs.
Yannis is an experienced organ maker and musician. In his workshop, he constructs the tsabouna, the Greek folk wind instrument of the bagpipe family. He also constructs single blade reed flutes, various double flutes and the traditional cycladic percussion instrument, the doubaki, in various sizes.
Musical instruments are available for purchase at La Ponta, and the pubic is also encouraged to attend the concerts "Sounds from the Castle" that run from May until October where all these various music instruments come to life.
What is it, that brought Yannis to Akrotiri? "Destiny", he says. Maybe it was destiny as well, that brought us together. This was a journey we will always cherish because in Yannis we found more than an artist and an entrepreneur: we also found a friend!
